Description: General Specs: Browning, 1961, 20 Gauge, 6lbs. 9oz., Chokes IC/M, LOP 14 5/16″, DAH 2 1/2″, DAC 1 5/8″ Serial Number: 22776 The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most brilliant designs. Produced in Belgium, running strong from 1931 through 1977 when traditional production stopped, The Superposed is well known in the upland world here and abroad. Here we have the venerable Browning Superposed Grade 1 in 20ga. with hard-to-find field chokes. Most of these guns are found with skeet chokes and are less desirable. This gun has the most desirable 28″ barrels factory choked IC/M and 3” Magnum chambers, the perfect upland gun. As you compare this gun to others, keep in mind that the most desirable Superposed guns are the 28” FIELD CHOKED, LONG TANG, ROUND KNOB guns built before 1966. This 6lb. 9oz. gun, sn22776 built in 1961, is all factory original and still retains 98% factory finish on wood and metal…it is an untouched, factory original Browning Superposed Lightning! The stock has the original curved butt with factory horn butt plate intact measuring 14 3/8” LOP. The finish is factory original hand-rubbed varnish with the expected field marks but nothing notable. The barrels are not loose when open and they are tight on the breech face with the lever well right of center and the bores are mirror shiny. This gun was serviced last year by Art’s Gun & Sport Shop (the Superposed Guru) for cleaning and replacement of springs, firing pins, and sears. The gun is like new inside as well. Most of us know that Superposed guns built after 1966 were prone to salt contamination and rust because Browning cured their stock wood in salt to speed the drying/aging process. The marketplace still has an aversion to the later guns with short tangs, and some even with square knob pistol grips. This is a great upland gun that is balanced perfectly 1/8” ahead of the hinge pin and light enough to carry all day afield. The value of these earlier Superposed guns continues to climb, so you can invest in this gun and enjoy its use as it gains value. When you combine the high condition, long tang, round knob, recent service, and desirable field chokes the value of this gun becomes readily apparent. Priced to sell so don’t let this one get away.
