Description:
24 inch octagon barrel chambered in 44 RF caliber with a bright shiny bore. One of the best bores I have seen on a Henry rifle. Sights include a German silver front blade with the high square back and replacement sporting rear. The barrel retains a fair amount of blue with the balance being a blue/brown patina. Barrel also has good markings and a sling swivel attachment. This rifle also features an original “Henry Repeating Rifle” marked leather sling. The sling has a brass swivel hook and a large brass buckle. Slings for Henry rifles have not survived in any great numbers over the decades. This one is a true survivor. The brass receiver has some sort of a grungy buildup that looks like Verdigris especially around the hammer. You may end up damaging the unpolished patina underneath if you were to try and remove it. The Verdigris color of the patina naturally forms over time, often taking months to several decades, depending on environmental conditions such as humidity, pollution, and temperature variations. This Henry may have spent time in a leather scabbard for an extended period. Lever is brownish while the hammer and trigger are a brown/gray. The lever latch is a period replacement. Nice smooth functioning action. The American walnut buttstock appears to have been lightly sanded at one time and is a little shy at the wrist showing both tangs. Some light dings and handling mars with a coat of finish added and a sling swivel attachment. Brass rifle style buttplate has a nice appearance to it. Four piece cleaning rod is not present in the trapdoor. Not a bad old Henry.
