This example has a 4" barrel with half-moon front sight and fixed rear sight. Top of barrel with the usual two line address/patent date. Color case hardened hammer and trigger. Most other small parts blued/nickeled. Full serial number on butt and cylinder. Fitted with black rubber grips molded with Smith & Wesson logo and diamond around the screw. Backstrap marked W.O. DYER. Complete with wooden presentation case featuring red velvet lining and detailed operating instructions on interior lid. The Model 1½ Third Issue was manufactured from 1878 to 1892 with total production of approximately 97,574 revolvers, making this a desirable collector piece representing the evolution of Smith & Wesson's early cartridge revolver designs. Condition: Approximately 95-97% original nickel finish, with muzzle wear and scattered areas of flaking. Screw retaining release lever is a replacement. Comparable condition grips with blunting and scattered handling marks but no chips. Bright bore with shallow rifling. Correct manual mechanics with crisply cocked. Otherwise, dried grease responsible for slowing mechanism. VG+ box. An attractive example of one of S&W earliest revolvers.
