This is a splendid Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector Revolver in .44 Special, manufactured by Smith & Wesson in Springfield, Massachusetts. The serial number 26861 aligns with production around 1926, as S&W’s Triple Lock and later Hand Ejector models in the .44 Special range from the mid-20,000s were produced in the mid-1920s. Introduced in 1908 as the .44 Military Model of 1908 (also known as the Triple Lock, though later models like this one omitted the third lock), the Hand Ejector is renowned for its robust double-action design and smooth trigger pull. The .44 Special cartridge, developed by S&W in 1907, offers excellent accuracy and stopping power, making it a favorite for law enforcement, target shooters, and outdoorsmen. Its historical significance lies in its role as a precursor to the .44 Magnum, with the Hand Ejector being one of S&W’s most iconic large-frame revolvers, favored by figures like Elmer Keith for its versatility.

This example is in very fine condition, retaining an impressive 97% of its original blued finish, with only minor handling marks. The case-colored hammer and trigger retain vibrant colors, complementing the revolver’s classic aesthetic. The 6 1/2" barrel has an excellent bore, indicating minimal use and meticulous care. The service walnut stocks are in excellent condition, and the revolver is mechanically excellent, with a crisp double-action and single-action trigger pull. All markings, including the likely “S&W” logo and “.44 S&W SPECIAL” on the barrel, are crisp and legible.
