Description: Superb Documented S&W M&P .38 Revolver C.1922 W/Jewish Merchant Association Offered here for sale and just acquired from a very prestigious collection is this superb early Smith & Wesson M&P .38 revolver manufactured circa 1922. Serial number 476150 it has a 6" barrel and may well be in UNFIRED condition. This special early specimen, according to Roy Jinks, Smith & Wesson historian was shipped to Schwabacher Hardware Company in Seattle, Washington on November 3, 1922. The Schwabacher Brothers were pioneering Bavarian-born Jewish merchants, important in the economic development of the Washington Territory and later Washington state. They owned several businesses bearing the family name. The Military & Police model evolved from Smith & Wesson’s late?19th-century Hand Ejector revolvers. Introduced around 1899, it initially chambered the .38 Long Colt but was quickly adapted to the more powerful .38 Special by 1902. Early models offered barrel lengths of 4", 5", 6", and even 6.5". By 1915, S&W introduced the .38 Special Military & Police Model of 1905 Fourth Change. This version refined the lockwork and barrel underlug design, and remained the standard through the 1920s . This specimen SN 476150 was shipped from Smith & Wesson to Schwabacher Hardware Company in Seattle. This information, attributable to historian Roy Jinks—is valuable provenance that strongly enhances authenticity and collectible value. While barrel length variety (4", 5", 6") was offered, the 6" was actually the least common among early S?series M&P revolvers. In near new condition it is rare to find an example this old and in this condition. In summary: FeatureSignificanceModel & Variant.38 Special M&P, 4th Change (c.1915–1920s) Barrel6" length—least common in S?series lineup Serial Number476150—dated and shipped to Schwabacher Hardware Co. on Nov 3, 1922 ConditionPossibly unfired—extremely rare for collector market This revolver is a fascinating and rare artifact—the combination of its early production date, long barrel, preserved condition, and direct connection to both S&W records and a historically significant retailer makes it genuinely special.
