Thinking of Teddy Roosevelt, what do you think his favorite hunting rifle was? That's right, the Winchester 1895....his was chambered in the venerable .405 Winchester Center Fire which he called his "Medicine Gun for Lions." Well, during his days as a Colonel and in charge of the Rough Riders in the Spanish-American War, they carried the Springfield chambered in .30-40 Krag, notably the first smokeless powder cartridge adopted by the US Military. Combine all this history with the fact that John Moses Browning designed the Winchester 1895 as his last design for Winchester to combine the Lever Action with higher powered pointed bullets and WHAAALLAA!!! So, here we have the best of all those worlds for all your TR fans, Winchester fans and history buffs out there......a version of the "Medicine Gun" chambered in the Military .30 Army, or .30 US, or .30-40 Krag. This particular rifle has the LONG 28" barrel and is in absolutely EXCELLENT condition! It's almost hard to believe when holding this completely unmolested piece of history that she's 122 years old! We wouldn't hesitate to take her afield today, not for a second. It is a true testament to the SOLID design of Mr. Browning and his legacy. This rifle deserves to be appreciated. I can guarantee you to be THE most popular person at the range with one of these in your hands. First you have to decide which family photo you're going to take down to hang it, though.
