Produced in 1878 (Purdey Gun History Sheet included). Weight is 6 pounds, 14 ounces. Rebounding locks and Thumb Lever Action. Rose and Scroll Engraving. A vintage, shootable classic hammergun. All measurements done by Jon Hosford, maker of shotgun measuring equipment, at Southern SxS tournament. 28 inch Barrels are invisibly sleeved and nitro proofed. Birmingham nitro proved at .729 in, bores at 9 inches from breech measure .732 in R and .733 in L. Minimum Wall Thickness measures .040 in R and .035 in L. Chokes at 1/4 / 1/2 (measured at .010 in R and .020 in L). Chambers as proved at 2 1/2 in. Original rib relaid on new barrels. Barrels photographed in sunlight (see picture 10), which also shows very small rust spot on rib at 314 1/2 address point in the Purdey name engraving. Rebounding Hammer Action, with solid hammer springs. Thumb lever performs perfectly, and is easy to use by right or left hand shooter. Engraving is worn, but not abused or brushed (Photos 6, 7 show typical engraving throughout action.) French Walnut English Stock equipped with newer Leather Buttpad. LOP measures 14 1/2 inches, DAC at 1 1/2 inches and DAH at 2 1/2 inches. Splinter fore-end with Anson push rod button release. Gun provided in period case with correct Purdey label. A hammer gun tight on face, ready for shooting enjoyment. No renovation has been attempted with this gun, with the only changes the sleeved barrels and the leather buttpad.
