Browning 78 single shot rifle with a 24 inch barrel and chambered in .45-70 GOVT. Whether you're a collector, a marksman, or a hunter seeking a reliable single-shot rifle, the Browning 78 offers unmatched precision and durability. The Browning 78 was introduced in 1973 as part of Browning's effort to revive interest in falling block single-shot rifles. The 78 is not a direct successor to any prior Browning model. Instead, it draws inspiration from the Winchester 1885 High Wall, a rifle originally designed by John Moses Browning in 1878. Browning sought to bring this classic design back with modern refinements. Upon release, the Browning 78 was met with critical acclaim but did not achieve widespread commercial success due to its single-shot limitation in a market dominated by bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles. By 1982, Browning discontinued the 78 and replaced it with the Browning 1885. This example comes with a Pine Ridge scope already mounted.
