The 39"" round 75 caliber barrel has a good bore. The barrel is mostly smooth brown with areas of brightness and light pitting around the touchhole. It has the standard London proof marks and a crown over 14 on the tang. The lock has a crown over GR at the center, a crown over broad arrow to the right, and TOWER at the tail. The lock and hammer have a brown patina with the lock having some roughness at the center. The brass furniture are fine with an even age/wear patina. The stock, which has a light coat of added finish, is very good. It has an old crack on the off side from the real lock screw to the barrel. The rear of the left flat is stamped WC. The left butt has a broad arrow over BO stamp and the initials RMP on the comb. The right comb has the initials JMP. The swivels and ramrod are present. The action functions correctly. There is a plaque with this musket that gives an explanation of Brown Bess muskets ant that states that some were used during the Revolutionary War. The Brown Bess musket is a MUST for any musket, British, or Revolutionary War collection. This is a nice example overall. AUSTIN LOCATION Price: $3,600.00 Antique: Yes |
