Description:
Serial # 131125, 26” original Simson Co barrel, with a bright, excellent bore.  This is a great old German training rifle that some G.I. had fitted to a nice sporting stock, neatly shaped, and then checkered.  The metal surfaces retain about 95-97% fading original blue, toned to silver on the high and sharp edges, with a few very very light handling marks here or there, and a few very small freckles of light surface oxidation, that are very unobtrusive (I did my best with the images - it is a handsome rifle).  All of the original markings, including the Simson & Co. trademark on the receiver ring, remain crisp and well-defined. The stock rates very fine, with very little and few handling marks - a lot of nice in-the-wood finish present.  It has a flared left side Monte Carlo cheek piece with a capped pistol grip and some coarse but neat checkering, and very very neatly inletted with Winchester Super Grade sling swivel bases - clearly someone had some talent in the stock work. The barreled action is absolutely unadulterated, so if you had a German World War II trainer stock, this will drop right in and be a very scarce, collectible, Second World War trainer again. The Simson family was of Jewish heritage, and had to actually flee Germany, with the Third Reich Government seizing their factories and assets, making this a very scarce and desirable rifle. The original adjustable long range rear sight remains intact as does the barleycorn front, and the action works perfectly.  The rifle shoots extremely well and is a great little varminter and range gun as-is, and would quickly be a couple thousand dollar World War II Trainer, if you’ve got a nice stock.  C&R OK as it was surely sportered a lot more than 50 years ago, again, by whatever G.I. brought ‘er back from Germany.  Check your local laws before you bid.  What a great and storied old rifle with lots of potential !
