Description:
Serial # NSN, .45 Caliber black powder flintlock, 2 ¼ inch barrel with a very fine smooth bore with light roughness. This is a Belgian proofed Turn-off barrel barrel flintlock pistol with patriotic British themed Australian motifs. The sturdy "muff" pistol is decorated with the Union Jack on shield above "COOK" on the left and stand of flags surrounding "PERTH" in oval. Captain James Cook was the British explorer who played a key role in mapping Australia including what became the major city of Perth. It remains in fine condition with the iron barrel and frame showing a mottled brown with fine detail on the side engraving with slight play in the trigger guard. The bag-shaped walnut grip shows a shallow crack on the left side just rear of the frame. The threaded barrel screws on easily and locks into place. The action functions properly holding at half and full cock with a safety latch that slides into place. The frizzen looks like it was repaired at one point. A very well made pistol in fine condition overall. Antique;
