Description:
24 inch octagon barrel chambered in 44 RF caliber with a good bore showing shine and well defined rifling throughout. Original sights include a blade front with a 900 Yard graduated Henry folding ladder rear. An additional tang mounted aperture sight that looks like it has been there for quite some time. Barrel is also marked with the early “HENRY'S PATENT - OCT 16 1860 / KING'S PATENT - MARCH 29 1866” barrel address. Barrel retains much of it's original blue toning to plum in areas. Full length magazine tube has faded to a plum/brown patina. Brass receiver has an attractive untouched mustard patina with some spotting. Hammer has traces of case colors remaining while the lever is a brown patina. Loading gate still retains a good amount of fire blue. Most screws look good. Crisp functioning action. Walnut forearm has some original varnish remaining with a brass forend cap and sling swivel. Walnut stock has the usual handling mars but still retains a lot of the original varnish and a sling swivel. A small hairline crack through the bottom butt plate screw hole that is barely visible. Brass rifle style buttplate is complete with a 4 piece cleaning rod in the trapdoor. 15k serial range with the number on the inside. This is a very nice example of a scarce Henry marked 2nd Model 1866 rifle made in early 1868. Sure to enhance any Winchester collection!
