Description: Merkel - Special order Gun built for the Late Robert E. Petersen, Publisher/Owner of Petersen Publishing; Guns & Ammo, Handguns, Motor Trend, Hot Rod magazines. Owner of Petersen Automotive Museum, Los Angeles, California.
MERKEL - "Robert E. Petersen gun", Model 1620, Luxus Grade side by side 16 gauge featherweight shotgun. 28" barrels, 2 3/4" chambers, auto ejectors, Choked Improved Cylinder and Modified, 15" Highly Figured Flaming Burl walnut stock with pistol grip and engraved grip cap, double triggers, Case colored action with engraved/inlaid game birds and animals. Custom features: Custom Game Scene Engraved and Gold Decoration by Master Engraver " Ralph Weiss". The frame shows all of its case hardening and is signed R. Weiss (engraver) on the lower edge of sideplate. The frame is inlaid with a jumping rabbit on left in white gold, duck in flight on right, surrounded by flush gold border accents, with flying pheasant on bottom of frame. The grip cap is also finely decorated. This is a Luxus Grade, Vintagers Series upland bird gun built for an important American collector. Serial# 481514. Comes with Original box with end label indicating special ordered gun for R.E. Petersen. 100% Unfired, MINT CONDITION, New in box. Original cost: $35,992.00 plus tax and import fees from the 1980's.
