Payment Types Accepted: Description: The Sako name is world-renowned for their fine hunting rifles. With smooth actions, tight hand-fitted construction, beautiful finishing, and supreme accuracy, it's no wonder hunters and collectors seek these rifles out! This rifle is a Sako L61R AV chambered in .270 Winchester. Though Sako's production records are a bit spotty, it can be guessed that this rifle was built somewhere between 1981-1985; the rounded tip of the stock's forend would indicate it may be closer to a 1985 piece. The L61R "Finnbear" was Sako's first long-action receiver, with a dual locking-lug bolt design. Over time, the L61R saw a few subtle—modifications that would lead to new designations: the AIII, AIV, and AV (similar to military "–A_" designations for standardized modifications). The AIII added a bolt shroud to the action and the AV lengthened the rear tang and thus increased the overall size of the action in order to be better compatible with magnum-length cartridges; not much is known about the AIV designation, though small tidbits of info infer it may have had slight stock modifications or a different trigger or trigger guard design. The L61R AV evolved from a full controlled-feed bolt design (similar to Mausers, Ruger M77s, and Winchester M70s) to a push-feed (like a Remington 700) with a bolt guide added where the usual long extractor claw would fit on the bolt of the controlled-feed design. This design imitates the smooth feel of a controlled-feed, but with a simpler and cheaper manufacturing process of a push-feed (this would clue discerning customers into Sako's shift towards faster and larger production lines, potentially leading to a decrease in craftsmanship). The gun features a two-position safety and non-adjustable grooved trigger with very light trigger, great for hunting purposes. The fixed magazine features a hinged floorplate design, easy to safely unload the rifle quickly or open the action for access during maintenance. The particular rifle is chambered in .270 Winchester and fit in a gloss walnut stock with Monte Carlo-styled comb and checkered forend and pistol grip. The stock also wears the original rubber buttpad and has sling swivel studs installed at the front and rear of the stock. The barrel measures 22 ½" long. The receiver exhibits some added attention to detail, as the top of the bolt and top surfaces of the proprietary tapered dovetail scope mounts are checkered—a small detail not seen on many production guns. This rifle is in good condition, but some of the bluing is fading on the barrel, muzzle, bolt handle, and on the scope mounts. The barrel's condition is very good, with strong rifling and no rust or corrosion. The stock's finish is overall pretty good, but does have some handling marks throughout, but no cracks or missing sections of finish; the gloss is intact throughout. This rifle does not include a case or box.
