TURN of the CENTURY Classic REPEATING RIFLE

Here we present a C&R Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine chambered in .38-40 WCF, made in 1907 in New Haven, Connecticut. Another fantastic design from the mind of John Moses Browning, the 1892 was made to replace the venerable and iconic 1873 and featured its pistol caliber chamberings. The result was a trim and light rifle that was an immediate hit and stayed in production for almost 50 years. Many gun owners favored Winchester rifles for their ability to fire the same ammunition as their pistols, meaning that a cowboy, trapper or stagecoach defender could take along his trust rifle and pistol sidearm with only one supply of ammo!

The Winchester Model 1892, was a trusty piece of iron from the Old West, and a favorite among cowboys and outlaws alike. When the TV show “The Rifleman” hit the airwaves in 1958, starring Chuck Connors, the producers knew they needed something to make their show stand out among all the other cowboy tales. So, they gave their characters a special trick—a modified Winchester Model 1892, with a large and rugged ring lever, drilled and tapped for a set screw.

This clever tweak let the Marshal spin the lever around his hand to cock the gun with a swift, slick motion. The screw was set up so that, as he worked the lever, it would depress the trigger, allowing him to fire in rapid succession. In the opening credits, he’s shown emptying his six-shooter in less than five seconds flat.

The overall condition is very good. Gray patina. Original blue finish. Re-varnished stock is good. Slightly oversized buttplate. Bright bore with worn rifling. The action is strong. The markings are legible.
