BRITISH SIDEARM FOR THE GREAT WAR
Here we present a C&R British Contract Colt “New Service” Revolver, made in 1916 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt New Service is a large frame, large caliber, double-action revolver made by Colt from 1898 until 1946. It was chambered for the .45 Colt cartridge as well as .38-40 WCF, .44 Russian, .44-40 WCF, .44 Special, .455 Webley (Eley), and later .45 ACP, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, along with other less common calibers.
These were made to be large sidearms for military personnel. This one was made for the British military during World War I, as the United States was producing weapons for their ally before entering the War in 1917.
The overall condition is good. It wears an old refinish. The numbers match. British proofs. The action is strong. The bore is bright with good rifling. The grips are solid replacements. A good example of a scarce Colt New Service revolver, made by Colt in Hartford for the British military during World War I!
