Description: Standard configuration and all-matching Smith & Wesson 1917 6-shot revolver, SN: 50441, Cal: .45, with 5.5” barrel having fixed front and grooved rear sight. Top of barrel with two line address reflecting location and patent dates. “S&W D. A. 45” on left side of barrel. Lower surface, in front of extractor rod, marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY”. Military acceptance on left upper frame that breaks the blue. Matching SN under barrel, back of cylinder, and on butt. Frame and crane matched to 11591. Unmarked sideplate. Butt marked “U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917/No/50441”. Smooth walnut panels, the right grip pencil numbered 50441. Rotatable lanyard ring. Condition: At least 96-97% bright original blue whose wear pattern is consistent with a lightly carried but seldom used revolver. Most wear on left side of top strap near rear sight notch and thinning and freckling of the backstrap. Minimal muzzle wear and no cartridge imprints on recoil shield. Vivid casehardening colors on hammer and trigger. Grips are slightly oil stained with a scattering of superficial handling marks, particularly the left panel. Mirror bore, all cylinders lock up nicely. A great no-excuse example of a World War I military revolver Made by Smith & Wesson that would be perfect in a U.S. military collection or for occasional use at the range.
