Ultra Rare Colt Police Positive Bankers Special .38 Revolver UNFIRED w/Box Circa 1936
Offered here and just acquired from a very prestigious collection is this ultra rare Colt Police Positive "Banker's Special" .38 revolver. Serial number 374585 Production Date: Serial Number 374,585 this specimen was produced in late 1936 or very early 1937 production.
The Colt Banker's Special is a distinctive and rare variant of the Colt Police Positive. Introduced in 1926 and produced until around 1940 it is essentially a Police Positive with a very short (2-inch) barrel, chambered in .38 Colt New Police (.38 S&W) caliber.
Only around 30,000 to 35,000 of these Banker's Specials were produced, making them far less common than other Colt revolvers. From 1926–1933, they were made with a square butt; after 1933, production incorporated a more ergonomic rounded butt.
Their compact size made them a lower-powered alternative to the Detective Special—ideal for discreet carry, especially in occupations like bank tellers or railway clerks, and indeed used by the U.S. Postal Service .
This Banker's Special—unfired, in its original box, with matching serial number, and even retaining its test target—is a remarkably rare and pristine piece. Collector-wise, factory-fresh specimens with all original accompaniments are extraordinarily uncommon and highly desirable.

In addition, this specimen is in its original box with test target. The side of the box denotes very clearly "Banker's Special" and the serial number on the bottom of box matches the revolver. One would be very hard pressed to find a better example than this especially with original box and test target in UNFIRED condition.
