Description:
For the first time, Legacy is offering a Japanese Hamada Type 2 pistol for sale.  One of only 50 ever manufactured and ~10 ever reported, we have serial number 25 available here. The Type 2 was produced in late 1944 until the fall of Japan in '45. In a unique partnering arrangement, the Type 2 pistols were manufactured by the Notobe factory using tooling provided by Nagoya Arsenal and then shipped "in the white" to Nagoya's Toriimatsu factory where they would be inspected, blued, and issued to the various Japanese military units. They are a simple blowback design with the recoil spring around the outside of the barrel and housed inside the upper slide.  This pistol is correctly unfinished or 'in the white', as all known examples are.  The unfinished metal shows minor patina in some areas, and light surface scratching. Slide, frame and magazine all are marked with the matching '25' serial number.  Left side of slide marked with Notobe cruciform stamp and "Ni Shiki" for "Type 2".  Unfortunately, this pistol did previously feature a broken safety, so a newly manufactured part was built by Gale Morgan but was modeled/copied directly from an original example.     The hold-open is functional, and the bore is generally clean and shiny with strong rifling.  The original wood grips are present and in good condition aside from a crack in the left panel.
