Description:
Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, pre-64 model, manufactured in 1961 in Connecticut per conversation with Winchester's staff.
- Serial number: 513553
- pre-64 models have a higher quality bolt extractor than models manufactured after that year.
- Comes with Redfield scope and sling--these were already on the gun when I received it, so I'm not counting them as separate accessories. You can remove them if you wish.
- Chambered in 270 WIN
- Aftermarket butt pad
- Heavy Varnish
- The right side of the stock has some wear.
This gun was given to me after my grandpa passed away and was his main deer gun. I don't hunt. I had it appraised as-is, in person, by David Condon, a world class expert on Winchester firearms, in addition to speaking with a variety of people on the Winchester forums. David told me they would sell the gun for $1400 in their shop, which was aligned with the people on the forums as well, so I'm going with that price. Official certiicate of appraisal would cost $450, and their consignment fee is 37.5%, hence why I opted to sell here instead. An official certificate price of that amount doesn't make sense for a gun like this.
My best guess is that the aftermarket stock, heavy varnish, and wear on the right side (the main aspects of the gun that would decrease its value) are because:
- Its a featherweight- light weight guns are preferable for lugging around in the woods all day, but they also kick like mules, hence the aftermarket butt pad.
- Heavy varnish to further protect the gun because it was used in the woods
- The wear on the right side of the stock (which is noticeably absent on the left) because that part of the stock rubbed up against him as he walked through the woods.
Shipping fees to be covered by buyer. If you are in the DC area, I'm willing to drive it to an FFL to save on shipping costs.
This is my first time selling anything on this site or ever selling a gun online, so please let me know if any key details are missing and I will do my best to be civil and answer ASAP.
