Description:
William Evans (London) 9.3x74R double rifle. Originally chambered in .400/360 2.75-inch, serial 14673 (matching) was rechambered by Abercrombie & Fitch. Acquired by the consigning estate in 1964, it has 26-inch barrels (stippled front sight base with silver-beaded blade and pop-up moon sight, serrated rib with one fixed and two folding express leafs marked 100/200/500, sling eye, bases with recoil shoulders, ejectors). Features include an automatic safety and disc set strikers. Barrel finish is rust blue and portions of the receiver are color case. Rings are not present. STOCK: The strong-grained walnut is dressed with wrap checkering (partially Mullered borders), color case grip cap and a toe line eye. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 8.8 pounds and the length-of-pull is 14.2 inches. CONDITION: Bores and chambers are bright with but the occasional trace suggestion of roughness. Barrels are full on face, ejectors kick with authority and triggers pull smooth. The opening lever rests well right. As restored, barrel blue is approximately 80 percent with softened markings. Action finishes crowd 90 percent. Wood is approximately 85 percent. INCLUSIONS: A newer Abercrombie & Fitch canvas takedown case with snaps and oiler is present. NOTES: The included letter from NECG dated 1999 states that regulation with 286-grain Norma grouped within approximately three inches at 100 yards. The caliber designation has not been remarked. The price is firm and layaway is available. $12,500 plus shipping.
