Description:
With about .40 cal, and 5 3/4” part round part multi-faceted barrel with turned medial at point of transition and an oxidized bore. The metal surfaces are mostly a deep plum-brown patina with some lighter gray along the lockplate and scattered old oxidation. The lockplate shows some wide foliate embellishments and a little game dog in center, the plate is flat with slightly beveled edges and pointed at rear, with faceted pan and unbridled frizzen. Brass fittings include a small thin ramrod thimble, tailpipe, triggerguard, rather large teardrop-shaped buttcap and solid sideplate, these embellished with somewhat rudimentary foliate scrollwork and simple game scenes. The buttcap has a somewhat more ornate foliate motif cast in-relief and the walnut stock rates very good showing an old flaking brown finish, a few small chips and minor cracks, and a rather neatly repaired break at the grip. The stock features drop points, some light floral carvings and horn nosecap. What is no doubt the original thin plain ramrod is present, the pistol is sighted with a brass blade front sight and the lock seems to function normally. A nice little European coat or pocket pistol in the original flint and likely Italian make.
