During the period from 1913 to 1918, the U.S. Army reportedly purchased around 5,730 of these Model 1913 Warner & Swasey sights. Rifles equipped with these scopes saw service in the Mexican Punitive Expedition of 1916, and later, American troops used them in France during World War I between 1917 and 1918. The rifle features a barrel marked with “SA/(flaming bomb)/7-15,” indicating Springfield Armory and the date July 1915. On the left side of the telescopic sight, you can see a roll-stamp that reads: “TELESCOPIC MUSKET SIGHT / MODEL of 1913 No. 4881 / THE WARNER & SWASEY CO.,” along with the address and patent dates. Additionally, the set includes a brown leather scope case marked “1916” from the Rock Island Arsenal, along with an oiler stored in the butt compartment. The overall condition is very good. Some original finish on the bolt and other low handled areas. The stock is good with a minor repair on the left side of the barrel tang. The bore is bright with nice rifling. The action is excellent. Very good leather scope case. The scope is in great shape for its age. Glass is slightly hazy and there is a small chip at the bottom of the objective (this is not seen when looking through the scope). Rare! Own the original!
