First Issue TARGET REVOLVER w/6-Inch Barrel
Here we present a C&R Factory Lettered Colt Police Positive Flat Top Target Model First Issue Revolver, made in 1910 by the Colt Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut, with a production run from 1910 through 1925. The factory letter shows that this was shipped to Hackett, Walther, Gates Hardware Co. in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 12, 1910, as part of a 10 gun shipment. It was originally blued but was refinished in nickel some time ago.
This First Issue Target Model revolver was lightweight and available in .22 Long Rifle, .22 WRF, .32 Long and Short Colt, and .32 Colt New Police (.32 S&W Long) chamberings, the First issue of this model featured an adjustable open iron sighted 6 inch barrel and was marketed from 1910 to 1925, with checkered Walnut grips replacing the rubber ones after 1923. A Second issue was sold from 1926 to 1941 and differed from the First in that it had a slightly heftier frame which upped the weight to 26 ounces.
The Police Positive was very successful venture for Colt. Along with the Colt Official Police, it dominated the law enforcement firearms market in the early 1900s. The Positive was itself incrementally modified in 1908, forming the basis for Colt's Police Positive Special model. The Colt Police Positive Special was a slight improvement of Colt's earlier Police Positive model with the only differences being a slightly lengthened cylinder and elongated and strengthened frame to allow the chambering of the longer, more powerful .32-20 Winchester and .38 Special cartridges.
The overall condition is very good. It wears an old nickel refinish. Each of the grips has been repaired. The action is excellent and strong. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. Numbers match and are low at 2452!
