Description:
Serial #4832, .45-70 Gov’t., 34" heavy octagon target barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a very handsome rifle that was built on an original Remington-Hepburn action that has retained nearly all of the original color case-hardened finish throughout. The breechblock retains about 75-80% of the original blue, with silvering along the exposed edges and surfaces, while the hammer has a similar amount of bright original fire blue remaining and freckled gray on the balance. Double-set target triggers are installed. The unmarked barrel is of modern manufacture and is equipped with scope blocks, and a globe front sight with lollipop style insert. The walnut forend and buttstock have some minor handling marks scattered about the old oil finish, and has sharp added checkering on the pistol-grip. A modern Vernier rear target sight is installed that is adjustable for both windage and elevation, and is fitted with a multiple aperture disk. The rifle weighs just under 12 lbs. This is a splendid custom Hepburn, constructed of both original and modern components, and would make an excellent target rifle. Antique;
