Here is what appears to be a fully operational antique Spencer carbine, serial number 39070. This serial number is solidly inside the Civil War range. Our muzzle measurement is showing the .52 cal. This example is very unique and that at some point in its life it had a heavier octagon and barrel sleeve installed. It has a weight of 11 lbs., 12 oz. Well, we can't turn back the clock and present to you who, when and how this was done, it is here and now and up for sale.
The bore shows quite a bit of rifling left with signs of dirt, and signs of corrosion. We have not gone beyond brief bore cleaner, brushes and patches to produce a picture and description of what is there. We will leave more extensive cleaning to the end buyer and their preferred methods. Lever, block, trigger and associated moving parts all seem to function well. I would describe the Hammer as operable with what would appear to be less mainspring tension than the original specs would call for. We have not disassembled this rifle. The magazine tube removes easily and the follower and spring appear to function as they should. Saddle ring bar is not present.
