Superlative Monty Kennedy custom Mauser 98 .30-06. Serial 371815 has a 22-inch barrel (deep crown, .560-inch muzzle diameter, retractable front sight blade on a tapering stipple-faced ramp). Features include a rust blue finish, polished rails, jeweled bolt body and follower, custom bolt handle (two bordered checkered teardrop panels), custom shroud with a two-position safety, reprofiled and checkered bolt release, custom bottom metal (reshaped, contoured, inside-the-bow release). SIGHTING: The receiver is topped with outstanding custom profiled and contoured bases. The front base extends over the chamber area and incorporates a dovetail for a rear-folding sight (elevation-adjustable, serrated ears, secured in the trap) that would clear most scopes. Leupold rotary/dovetail rings (one-inch, medium) are attached. STOCK: Formed from a blank of AAA-grade walnut with intricate, delicate figure into the definitive mountain rifle profile, formalities include a hand-rubbed oil finish, ebony forend tip, fine borderless wrap checkering, scalloped thumb cut, pedestalled bolt release, pancake with double scallop and shadow line, steel grip cap (engraved), checkered steel trapdoor butt plate with widow's peak and sling swivel studs. The toe line initial plate remains blank. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 7.4 pounds and the length-of-pull is 13.2 inches. CONDITION: As the rifle was never hunted and has been but lightly fired, the bore is outstanding. Trigger pull is crisp. Metal finish is approximately 99 percent and wood is approximately 98 percent with but trace indications of handling. The price is firm and layaway is available. $9,500 plus shipping.
