Antique Colt 3rd model Thuer .41 RF Derringer Second Variant with a 2 ½” round barrel that pivots to the right for loading. Serial # 6040. Early production model with low serial number and short high hammer. Blued barrel , Walnut grips. Approx. 8,000 manufactured. serial range 2000-10,000. Matching serial numbers on left hand grip frame and bottom of barrel.
The Colt 3rd model Derringer was produced by Colt from 1875 to 1912 . The revolver was designed to fire a black powder .41 rimfire cartridge, and it featured a unique slide open barrel design that made it easy to load and unload with ejector.
The spur trigger on this particular revolver was a common feature of pistols and revolvers of the time, and it made it easy to draw and fire the weapon quickly. The varnished walnut grips are also a nice touch, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of the revolver.
Condition: 2 ½” good bore with some moderate pitting and still showing strong rifling. Bronze frame is in good condition with handling marks and light scratches. original bluing on the barrel has faded to an antique gun-metal gray patina. The original Walnuts grips are in good condition a couple minor small chips and still retaining a bit of the original varnish. Barrel markings - COLT - remains faint but legible. Mechanically works properly in half and full cock position with a very strong hammer spring. Please judge condition by the photos.
