Description:
Serial #20673, .44 CF (probably .44-60 Creedmoor), 34" heavy part octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a very handsome rifle that has 97-98% of an excellent, added color case-hardened finish on the receiver and trigger guard bow. The breechblock has muted original color case-hardening remaining, with the balance turned to a lightly freckled gray and plum-brown patina. The hammer retains nearly all of a later rust blue finish, and the modern barrel retains a commensurate amount of original blue with some mild silvering at the muzzle, as well as along the edges of the barrel facets. The rifle is outfitted with double-set triggers and the barrel has a spirit level front globe with lollipop insert installed. There is no rear sight present, but the top tang is drilled and tapped for a vernier target sight (two installation screws are included). The original checkered forend is in fine condition with only a few minor handling marks in the thick added oil finish, while the newer pistol-gripped buttstock, which has beautifully feathered grain at the butt, has even fewer blemishes and fine checkering along the grip. The rifle weighs just under 12 lbs., and is in fine-excellent condition overall. Antique;
