Description:
General Specs: Browning, 1966, 28 Gauge, 6lbs. 12oz., Chokes SK/SK, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 3/16", DAC 1 1/2"
Serial Number:  1179 F6

The Browning Superposed was the first prominent over/under introduced to the USA.  Beginning in 1931, the Superposed over/under has been used in the field and at the clay games for over 90 years of proven, rock-solid performance.  These are hand-fitted, quality guns made one at a time by skilled master gunmakers that are a dying breed.  This fine Pigeon Grade Superposed 28ga., sn1179 F6 built in early1966 before the issues with salt wood began, one of only 30 or so ever made before the undesirable short tang saltwood guns came about.  As you compare this gun to others, keep in mind that the most desirable Superposed guns are the long tang, round knob guns built before 1967, like this one.  This gun is ALL FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES WITH OVER 99% OVERALL CONDITION.  The gun wears a beautiful Purdey style leather cover pad befitting a fine European over/under with 14 ¼” LOP.  The Pigeon Grade has hand-cut engraving, deep chiseled oak leaf engraving on the top of the action, pigeons in flight, floral bouquets on the bottom, and well figured walnut stocks.  This gun will not disappoint in the wood department…very nice!  Guns built after mid-1966 were prone to salt contamination and rust because of the manner which Browning cured their wood.  At the same time, Browning also tried to cut costs by changing the trigger guard tang to the “short tang”, which nobody really liked.  The marketplace has an aversion to the later guns with short tangs and/or square knob pistol grips.  The early guns like this one are highly desirable.  IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE 28GA. ONLY BECAME AVAILABLE IN 1960, WITH A SLOW START IN ORDERS.  THE TOTAL PRODUCTION OF THE PIGEON GRADE 28GA. GUN WITH LONG TANG, ROUND KNOB BUILT BEFORE 1966 IS LESS THAN 30 GUNS TOTAL.  THIS IS A VERY RARE GUN AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO OWN A PRE-1966 PIGEON GRADE 28GA. WILL NOT OFTEN PRESENT ITSELF.  Just in time for the upcoming bird season, the perfect gun for quail, grouse, and woodcock, don’t hesitate to call on this one.  See the specification tables below for details of this gun.  The value of these earlier Superposed guns continues to climb, so you can invest in this gun and enjoy its use as it gains value.  We have priced this gun to sell and if you are the new owner, you will have instant equity in such a high-condition, long tang, round knob Superposed.  Thanks for looking!
