Description:
SOLD

Here is a very high quality (and very shootable) pull-back top-lever bar-in-wood hammergun from Thomas Horsley of York, one of the best regional British gunmakers of the mid to late 1800s.  This example was built in 1884, and has 29 ¾" nitro-proved fluid steel sleeved barrels.  The chambers are 2 ½" and the bores are excellent, choked .011/.038 (about improved cylinder/full).  This gun incorporates Horsley's barrel bolting patent No. 2410.  The number “1” is engraved on the top-lever and the rib.  There are carved percussion fences, and rebounding locks with dolphin hammers.  All metal surfaces have best quality fine border and acanthus scroll engraving.  The fore-end has an engraved lever release.  There is an insert repair to the fore-end tip, visible in photo no. 13.  The stock is highly figured English walnut.  The checkering is worn almost smooth.  The stock measures 1 3/8" x 1 ¾" x 14 3/8" with slight cast off (for a right hand shot.)  The weight is 7 lbs 3 oz.  In the 1880s Horsley built only a few dozen guns per year.  Each one was a work of art.  Here is a chance to own one.
