Description:
The Mauser P-08 Parabellum is a magazine-fed, semi-automatic pistol chambered for the 9MM Luger cartridge. It is most commonly known as the Luger. It incorporates the unique toggle-lock action developed by Georg Luger. It was first produced by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken of Berlin, Germany. Mauser Werke took up the exclusive rights to manufacture the P-08 semi-automatic pistol in 1934. Mauser Werke ceased production of the P-08 in 1943. Mauser Werke is most often associated with the Mauser bolt-action rifles it produced. However, Mauser Werke offered several unique pistols before its manufacturing facility was dismantled. One example is the Mauser P-08 semi-automatic pistol based on Georg Luger's Luger design. During World War II, the German military employed the Mauser Werke gun factory to produce weapons for the wartime effort. In 1934, Mauser Werke was given the right to build the Luger pistol. The gun was chambered for the 9X19 Parabellum cartridge, also known as the 9MM Luger cartridge. A limited number of the P-08 pistols were produced by smaller German firearms manufacturing firms. After Adolf Hitler's campaign to rearm the German military was near completion, the government laid all production efforts of the P-08 semi-automatic pistols in the hands of Mauser Werke. In 1943, Mauser Werke discontinued full-time production of the Mauser P-08. After the Russian and French occupations of Oberndorf, Germany was finished. The Mauser Werke production facility was dismantled, and all the records were destroyed. Mauser Werke tried to revamp the production of the Mauser P-08 semi-automatic pistol. However, only limited firearms were produced, primarily as display models only. This particular example of a Mauser Werke P-08 Parabellum (noted by the S/34 Manufacturer mark on the toggle) was manufactured in the Oberndorf facility in 1938. It comes with the original leather officer's holster containing an extra 8 round magazine and the Luger tool in its original pouch. 9mm Parabellum
