Description:
SOLD     This Winchester was produced in 1882. The serial number is 81674. The 24 inch round barrel is chambered for the 44 W.C.F.  [44-40] cartridge. The bore is in good condition. This rifle has the Carbine receiver altered by Winchester by putting screws in the holes that were for the saddle ring staple. This is mentioned in The Winchester Book by Madis. Winchester needed more rifles in the model 1873 . The company used some of the carbine receivers to fill the orders. These carbine receiver saddle ring staple holes were plugged with flush screws in this manner. These carbine receivers are rarely seen today! This rifle has a very old good quality refinish. The old refinish is turning a faded blue color. The action works fine with no issues. The stock and forend have no cracks or other damage. The wood shows a old re varnish. This is a good looking old Winchester that has a interesting factory historical production history.
