Description:
"fine Edo-period wakizashi signed “Settsu ju Sukehira" (?????) and dated Kanbun 7 (1667). The blade measures 21 9/16 inches (54.7 cm) and is preserved in plain shira-saya mounts.  This wakizashi displays the characteristic Kanbun-era sugata, with shallow curvature and stout proportions. The blade features an active midare hamon in clear polish, a well-formed chu-kissaki, and a clean boshi. The tang is ubu with a single mekugi-ana, bearing both the smith’s signature and exact date.  Sukehira was an Osaka-area smith of the Shinto period, producing blades during the early Edo era. This example, signed and dated, represents a collectible 17th-century work with historical appeal, preserved in excellent condition for study and appreciation.
