Awesome lightweight 12ga game gun built with 28" English fluid steel brls that have Churchill rib with small steel front bead. Maker's name "G.E. LEWIS & SONS 32 & 33 LOWER LOVEDAY ST BIRMINGHAM" engraved on rib and breech ends of barrels with small ring of engraving. Polished barrel flats with current proof stamps. Splinter forearm checkered in point pattern with scroll engraved Anson type push button release and iron. Beaded and reinforced boxlock receiver is near full coverage scroll engraved on sides with maker's name in relief banner. Barrel fences and top of frame are nicely scroll engraved. Blued top lever is gold inlaid at picot point "THE ARIEL" and scroll engraved throughout. Top tang engraved en-suite with gold inlaid "SAFE" in front of safety slide. Blued trigger plate engraved in about 80% scroll coverage. Blued long tang trigger guard with scroll on bow and tang with SN at center. Gun made with double triggers, auto ejectors, auto safety, and hidden third fastener. Very nicely figured walnut buttstock has carved teardrop behind receiver, is checkered in 2 point pattern through the wrist, has gold oval on toeline, and terminates with a thin 1/4" checkered butt wood buttplate.
Gun remains in very good to excellent overall condition. Barrel, trigger plate, and trigger guard have been professionally restored and retain about 90% of those proper blued finishes. Buttstock and forearm are sound and retain most of their proper restored hand rubbed finishes. Frame has drifted to mostly gray with engraving still crisp. Bores are bright and shiny. Mechanics are excellent. A really good looking very lightweight 12 gauge which would be a ball to carry in grouse and woodcock cover.
