Our Early American Homesteaders had to live off the land. They had to take every opportunity they had and made many primitive tools to help. This is one of those handmade, hand forged tools. If they were fortunate enough to have an apple tree or 2 on their land they would likely have deer as well. That was a good thing and a bad thing. The deer love the apples and they ate them right off the tree. That was good because it brought the deer into rifle range and that meant fresh meat for the homesteaders and his growing family, but then the family was left with the bruised, rotting , stomped, half eaten and pooped on, apples on the ground for the family and that was a bad thing. So he needed a tool to cut the lower limbs off the tree and that was just what this tool was made for. It caused the deer to eat the fallen apples off the ground, leaving choice apples on the tree to be picked and stored in this pioneers underground root cellar, either canned, or hung from the ceiling in a flour sack to stay cool and dry and that was a good thing. A close look at this very rare pioneer made tool will tell that it was made from what ever was at hand. A true Early American Museum Piece. If you have an apple tree or an orchard or cabin you need this great piece of pioneer history, to remember those that came before us.. Price: $169.95 |
