The AR 10A is a member of ArmaLite’s AR 10 family of semi-automatic rifles chambered in .308 / 7.62×51 NATO.
It is distinguished from the AR 10B by its magazine compatibility: the AR 10A is designed to accept early ArmaLite “waffle" magazines and PMAG-style magazines, whereas the AR 10B uses proprietary aluminum magazines.
The AR 10A and AR 10B share a lot of operational, control, and maintenance aspects, but they are not magazine-compatible with each other.
