Description:
For sale is an outstanding 12 Guage, Side by Side, Windsor Grade, excellent 28" damascus barreled, Sideplated, ejector shotgun.  Serial number 2114, produced between 1910 and 1930.  The damascus barrels have flawless mirror bores amd the damascus pattern is vivid.  The A&D boxlock action is simple, ingenious and rugged. The hammer are cocked when the barrels are dropped and after firing, the ejecgtors throw the shells as new.  While A&D boxlocks are simple, Hellis distinguished itself by elevating the design with finely engraved sideplates seamlessly inset into the wood behind the action.  This makes the Windsor grade by Hellis boxlocks uniquely characteristic of the Hellis craftsmanship.  The A&D boxlock action is simple, ingenious and rugged.  The boxlock is seamlessly integrated into the wood finished in straight lines.  The ejectors work flawlessly and eject hulls as it should.  The hammers are cocked when the barrels are dropped.  The Hellis is in excellent condition as the photos show and has been sparsely used.  Rib reads "Charles Hellis and Sons 119 Edreware Road Hyde Park London".
The furniture is Turkish walnut and Hellis used high-grade steel for the barrels.  Either the collector or hunter will find this Hellis to be an
eccellent addion to any collection.  Charles Hellis was a London based gunmaker founded by Charles Edward Hellis in London in 1884.  He trained his two sons and they became partners in the business.  After their original startupin Pall Mall Hellis took up a shop near Hyde Park along Edgeware Road.  Each firearm made was a reflection of the era it was created and offers insight into the evolution of gun craftsmanship over time.
This can be apply to the side plated adjoining the boxlocks.  The scrolling on the boxlocks and sideplates distinguiushed Hellis by elevating the design as rthe engrlling is seamlessly inset into the wood behind the boxlock action. The chambers are 2 3/4" however I have only used 2 1/2"
low compression shells.  This is not a gun that has been used for hunting, it has just been in my collection, and I am thinning out my collection as I am getting older.  This is a fine English double for the collector or hunter that functions perfectly..  I have only used low compression shells when
firing from RST or Armusa.
