This compact, service-grade Walther P.38 marked CYQ - the wartime manufacturers's code for Spreewerk (Grattau, Czechoslovakia) - chambered in 9 MM and dating to circa 1943, typifies late-wartime German production: utilitarian blued finish, functional DA/SA trigger, and the P.38's distinctive hinged locking-piece short-recoil action. These pistols were produced to military specification with acceptance stamps and simple Bakelite grips: Spreewerk examples are known for straightforward workmanship and occasional visible machining marks typical of wartime output. Collectors value a CYQ P.38 for its historical context and maker code - it represents one of the 3 principal wartime P.38 producers and the mass-production approach adopted after 1942.
