Description:
.56-50....Approximately 23,000 produced from 1865 to 1866. As with approximately half of the Spencer M1865 production, this example is fitted with a Stabler cuttoff device, allowing it to fire as a single shot only leaving the magazine as a reserve. Receiver is marked with standard 3-line Spencer address with "M.1865" designation marked at the barrel breech. Standard tall blade front sight and 900 yard ladder rear. Plain walnut forend retained by a single barrel band. Walnut stock fitted with a saddle ring, rear sling swivel, and butt plate with magazine tube. Very faint boxed "EAW" Elijah Williams and "DAP" Dwight Perkins inspector cartouches present on the left side. CONDITION: Very Good. Metal displays a pleasant dark gray patina. Markings are legible. Stocks have some scattered nicks and impressions with a couple ofl typical drying cracks at the butt. I wiped down with lemon oil to keep the wood moist.Srong and mostly bright bore with some expected black powder abrasion scattered throughout. Fine mechanics. SN 12018.
