This is a WWII True Temper 1944 Machete with Canvas Scabbard and field marked U.S.M.C. This example has a very nice black, chip free, 18" blade clearly marked on the ricasso for the manufacture "True Temper" with US and date 1944. What is different about this machete is the black handle, most of the True Temper made examples have an olive green plastic handle. The grips here appears to be correct with the blade. This comes with a correct brass throat and collar, not maker marked and field applied U.S.M.C. sheath that shows a lot of use. Excellent mid-war machete.;
