Description:
The Remington Model 81 “The WoodsMaster” is Remington’s pre? and post?WWII semi?automatic hunting rifle (production roughly mid?1930s through 1950). It was developed as an evolution of Remington’s earlier Browning?designed semi?auto rifles and is the first of the classic early commercially produced semi?automatic sporting rifles aimed at hunters. The Model 81 is well regarded for its slim, hand?filling walnut stock, reliable long?stroke gas/slide action, and attractive, utilitarian lines — a favorite of American hunters in the 1930s–1940s.

Description
Remington Model 81 “The WoodsMaster” — manufactured 1940 — chambered in .300 Savage. 22″ blued barrel with bright shiny bore and good rifling. Adjustable rear notch sight on a dovetail with dovetail front bead sight. Semi?automatic action feeds from a 5?round internal magazine; large cocking knob, thumb safety, upper and lower tangs. Blued metal shows light wear and handling marks; mechanically solid. Smooth walnut grip stock and forearm with moderate wear, sling loops present. Note: forearm has two cracks (left side and bottom near the receiver) and several scratches — visible in photos. LOP (to the rear of the receiver): 13 3/4″. Condition consistent with age and field use. Serial: 11813. Sprague’s #: 158651.
