Description:
This is a straight quillon variant bayonet that measures 20 1/8" overall, with a 15 3/4" straight, single-edged blade having wide single fullers. The blade retains about 75-80% of the original blue finish, with the balance freckled to a mellow plum-brown patina. Additionally, there are streaks of whitewash present on either side of the blade, mainly at the tip. The ricasso is marked with the Kokura Arsenal symbol and "M (with arrow)" stamp of National Denki (National Electric Co.) who manufactured the bayonet under Kokura direction. The hilt metal has thin reddish-brown surface oxidation throughout and the wooden grip panels are in fine shape with very few handling marks or blemishes in the original oil finish. The wooden scabbard is in fine condition with intact fittings and a period olive green painted finish that has flaked lightly in spots. This is a fine example of a late war Japanese bayonet by a desirable maker.
