Description:
The Model of 1917 was a designation given to the Colt DA revolver when configured for use by the military. They were built to serve and were manufactured to aid the was effort. The 1911 was an accepted arm but all the lines were filled to capacity, so the DOD had Colt chamber their Double Action revolver in .45 cal., and add it to the production. This one appears to have the "step" in the cylinder for headspacing .45 Auto (rimless) cartridges, and they would have had a moon clip to hold the cartridges for the hand to eject them. It is in good condition with much of the blue remaining, very little corrosion, and the grips retaining much of the checkering., as well as the lanyard loop. YOM: 1918 .45
