Description:
"Serial No. 0097, rebuilt circa 1912, 18" round barrel. Originally produced as part of the Argentine M1891 Mauser contract, this rifle was later sold to Peru, where it was arsenal-converted into a carbine configuration in 1912. These converted carbines are sometimes referred to as “1912 Rebuilds", part of Peru’s effort to modernize its arms while reusing existing stockpiles. The barrel bears Belgian proof marks, and faint traces of the original Argentine crest are still visible on the receiver—evidence of its earlier service life. Serial numbers are not matching, and the bolt is unmarked, typical for these refitted rifles. Metal finish has thinned to a light grey patina, with light surface oxidation noted throughout. The stock is solid but shows the expected field wear, including nicks, dings, and scratches from decades of service use. The action is smooth and functions correctly, making this a fascinating and functional example of South American arms recycling in the early 20th century. A historically significant Mauser variant that bridges two national military histories.
