Payment Types Accepted: USPS Money Order, Money Order, or Certified Check Description: This is an interesting Sharps "Old Model" 1874, SN: 159090 (numbers matching), that was invoiced on October 28th, 1876 to B. Kittredge & Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio. The configuration is described as a Model 1874 Military Rifle chambered for the 45 caliber 2 7/8 shell; ie 45-110. Kittredge guns are generally accepted to be "western" guns, as the guns almost always were shipped on to a frontier gunmith or retailer, and seeing as this rifle is chambered for such a large cartridge, it is clear that it was for sporting use rather than military use. As for the rifle itself, it shows signs of hard use on the American frontier. The exposed metal has scattered spots of corrosion consistent with a rifle that was used rain or shine. I removed the wood, and the metal that was concealed from the elements remains flawless. The wood shows bumps and bruises one would expect from a rifle that likely fell off a wagon or two during its life, but is very much stable, with no cracks visible. The action works flawlessly, and the rifling remains strong, with only scattered blemishes. The rear sight was replaced in the period with a buckhorn sight; I have not been able to pinpoint the gunsmith this originated from, but it would be worth some extra research, as it would likely tell you where this rifle ended up. The front sight base is present, but the blade is absent. All in all, an old Sharps rifle in a seldom seen configuration that could very well have been used in the northern buffalo hunts. If you have any questions, or would like any other photos, do not hesitate to ask. The payments methods listed are the only ones that I will accept. Fully insured shipping w/ signature is included in the price. Price: $3,900.00 Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .45 2 7/8", .45-110 Sharps |
