Description:
An extremely rare French Mas 1949 rifle in 7.5 French, made circa 1956-57. These were the next iteration of the Mas 44 family of rifles and feature an optics rail and grenade launcher. These were used heavily in combat by the foreign legion in Indochina (Vietnam) and Algeria during the last days of the French colonial empire. This example is in the original 7.5 French cartridge and has been arsenal overhauled (but no date stamped). Matching external serial numbers, non matching internals (very common for refurbished MAS rifles). This rifle has had it’s grenade launcher removed and the associated hole in the muzzle cap welded up. This was done when France adopted the NATO 22mm type grenade. The wood and metal both are in excellent shape, with no scrapes, dings, dents, cracks, or scuffs, (save for what is visible in the last photo on the upper handguard). This rifle was a safe queen and I have never fired it, it is just in too nice of shape! Comes with 1 10rd magazine and a sling, additional magazines available.
Although approx 80,000 MAS 49s were produced, according to my research, it seems only around 250 French variants were ever imported into the US, with the rest being destroyed by the French government. Of those 250, only 25 or so were without grenade launchers.
Additionally, the lack of grenade launcher, bayonet, flash hider, threaded barrel, pistol grip, or “high capacity” magazine make this the only way to own a military standard MAS rifle in many ban states.
I believe his rifle to be 50 state legal, but it is your responsibility to know your local laws.
