This revolver was conceived to be a serious workhorse for the military, police, and anyone who wanted a large double action revolver in a caliber such as .45 Colt. The U.S. would go on to adopt versions that would be known as the Model 1909 and the Model 1917 for the Marines and the Army. Other chamberings that were available throughout the period of manufacture (1898-1946) were .38-40 WCF, .44 Russian, .44-40 WCF, .44 Special, .45 Long Colt, .455 Webley (Eley), and later .45 ACP, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, along with other less common calibers. They would see use in the Spanish American War, the World Wars, even in Vietnam. This one was made for the British during World War I and thus was chambered in .455 Eley and has English proofs. This is the type of revolver that would have made a reassuring as well as impressive sidearm for an officer. The overall condition is fine. Original finish. The action is excellent in both double and single action. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The grips are solid, showing use. Numbers match. Own the original!
