Description:
For Sale is a Pre War 1939 Winchester Model 42 Skeet with the Straight Stock and 26" Full Rib 3 inch Barrel. All original.

The Winchester Model 42 is a classic pump-action .410 bore shotgun produced from 1933 to 1963, often called "the greatest little shotgun ever made." Skeet straight stock ribbed barrel"— refers to a Standard Grade model with a straight-grip stock and a solid ribbed barrel. Here's a quick breakdown based on historical specs:
  • Straight stock: This is a rare special-order feature on Standard Grade models (most had pistol-grip stocks). Straight stocks were more common on higher grades like Skeet or Trap but add collectibility here.
  • Ribbed barrel: Likely a solid rib (a flat metal strip on top of the barrel for sighting, introduced in 1934), as factory ventilated (vent) ribs were extremely rare (only about 61 produced with 2½-inch chambers). Aftermarket vent ribs (e.g., by Simmons) exist but are less desirable for originality.
  • "Sheet" clarification: This may be a typo or shorthand for "skeet" (a grade with upgraded wood and chokes) or "sweet" (slang for a desirable example). If it's Skeet Grade, values increase significantly due to select walnut and checkering. If it's a plain "sheet metal" reference, it could point to the grooved metal forearm, but that's standard.
Barrel lengths were typically 26" or 28", with chokes like full, modified, or improved cylinder. Chambers were 2½" (pre-1948, rarer) or 3". Without the serial number, exact year/grade is hard to pinpoint, but pre-WWII (1933–1941) examples command premiums (up to 25–50% more)
