I am selling my Sharps 1863 Carbine that is a Confederate Depot stamped original captured and reissued gun. When I bought it a few years back I got a really fair deal on it and only later discovered what I really had. This is a "Confederate repair and reissue gun". The shop that sold it had no idea and neither did I. It wasn't until I posted pix on a Civil War History site that I found out what the "Z" stamp was for. The gun was naturally a Union Gun which was then captured by the Confederates, armored at one of the Virginia Facilities and reissued to the Confederates. The gun later fell into the hands of the winners and was converted to 50/70 by the US/Union. There is a book, "Captured and Collected" Confederate Reissued Firearms by Capt Steven W. Knott, USN (ret) that deals with this subject. The pictures tell the story. A truly beautiful rifle with aged patina and slight blue finish with nice wood with no cracks or gouges. The bore is in great condition and the rifle cocks, locks tight with no wiggle or slop. $5750 plus shipping. No trades needed.
